God is still Good - Responses to the Colorado shooting

http://aminiatureclaypot.wordpress.com/2012/07/20/so-you-still-think-god-is-a-merciful-god/

This is an incredible article from a woman who was in the same theater in Colorado as the shooting during The Dark Night Rises movie. It is so encouraging to read her thoughts during the entire thing.

"In that moment, as the rapid-fire shots continued, I truly thought I was going to die. And I realized that I was ready. I have put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ as the redeemer of my soul, and there wasn’t the slightest doubt that I would be received into heaven, not because of any good thing that I have done but because of His merciful nature and the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ."

God has not given us a spirit of fear. He gives us peace. How cool is it that we don't have to live in fear of death?  Yes, in that situation, I'm sure my fear level would have been off the charts, but I would like to think that the fear would not be for my life, maybe fear of being in excruciating pain or fear for the lives of those around me. She continues to say...

"He is not the cause of evil, but He is the one who can bring comfort and peace in the midst of evil.  It’s been amazing to see the outpouring of love from so many people after this unthinkable act.  Yes, there was one evil act, but it is being covered by thousands, possibly millions of acts of kindness."

We don't know God's mind. We have no idea the plan he has for the good that can come from this horrific situation.

I love where she writes: "God is always good. Man is not. Do not get the two confused."

This also reminded me of a blog I wrote a little over a year ago. Why does God let bad things happen to good people?

Remember that God is not evil. People are. Sometimes, all too often, we choose evil over good. I am definitely guilty of this. But as I said before, maybe God allows bad things to happen to good people to remind us that this is not the end. This life is not what its all about.

I think what i've taken out of this tragedy is that we never know when this life is over. We cannot expect all people to choose good over evil, but I can do my part. I will do my best to always be kind. I will do my best to live out God's greatest commandment. We are to love Him, and love others. I know I, alone, cannot cure the world of evil by being kind, but maybe one person's day will be brightened and they brighten someone else's day. Kindness has an incredible ripple effect. Its contagious and eventually can make a change in the world.

Be kind.

Matthew 5:14-16

New International Version (NIV)
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

  1. my friend, duality is there without any exception.. positive/negative, day/night, old/young, men/women, good/evil, angels/demons, black/white, yin/yang.. all our problems stem from the fact that people hate each other because everyone is so different! Is it that bad to be different? We all are perfect, because we all are unique. The day we accept this, love and peace will reign.. And we all will be able to march towards "the greater good". Amen!
